Since you’ll be passing through northeastern CA and Lake County OR, you might find the info posted on this site helpful!

It looks like you might be in Calgary on a Saturday morning. If you are, you might try to link up with the Calgary Audubon which does Saturday morning birdwalks. We did this two years ago and met Mike Mulligan (email is potoo@shaw.ca) who was very hospitable. He is a bird trip leader, specializing in Costa Rica and Alaska. He knows his local birds of course, and we got 6 life birds that morning with him and his local group. You can check the chapter website to see if they have a walk when you will be there.

If you are going through Waterton/Glacier, the hotels are extremely atmospheric and delicious architecturally, but the restaurants not so much. They are all staffed by kids and the food is only OK. If you stay at the Prince of Wales (wonderfully memorable) drive down the hill into town and look for a place called something like Lantern Inn. Cute little town, most of the houses have been named by the owners.

Before leaving CA did you visit the birding areaa around Eureka? Looking forward to your trip in Alberta, CAN, as I have never been there. My father was born in Edmonton and visited Lake Louise and Banff often as a child.

    Hello Muriel and Allan,
I guess by now you are approaching the home stretch and I wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed reading about your adventures, specially the entry about “…breaking and entering in Newton…” May the Lady of the Dashboard bring you home safely! And, if you arrive home in the dark, double check the address before going in.
    Welcome back!
